Application process

1. Orientation: Attendance at employee or volunteer hospital orientation is mandatory. Information unique to Swedish Covenant Hospital (such as policies and procedures) are presented, and participants have the opportunity to ask questions. This information is necessary to provide and maintain a safe environment for our patients, volunteers, visitors and staff. Participants will be quizzed at the conclusion of orientation. 2. Training: On-the-job training is provided by the appropriate staff members and/or experienced volunteers. Volunteers are required to adhere to a written volunteer position description for the area to which they have been assigned. 3. Volunteer Placement: Personal goals and desires will be taken into account when determining your volunteer assignment. While every effort is made to accommodate the volunteer, the priority is to assist a department Swedish Covenant Hospital in meeting its goals and objectives. Volunteers do not replace paid staff. 4. Evaluation: An annual review is completed for long-term volunteers (volunteers serving for a year or longer). Volunteer input is requested at this review. For short-term volunteers, such as students fulfilling the minimum 100-hour requirement, the first few weeks are considered a mutual evaluation period. During this time, either the volunteer or the department may determine that the placement is not appropriate. 5. Annual Requirement: Each year, long-term volunteers are required to complete a Required Annual Validation and Education quiz (RAVE).
