Application process

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and be able to commit to 100 hours of service over a six-month period. Most volunteer shifts are once a week, 3-4 hours in length and are scheduled weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out an application and a background check authorization and then mail them to: St. Mary's Medical Center c/o Volunteer Department, 450 Stanyan Street, San Francisco, CA 94117. When your application has been reviewed, you will receive an invitation letter to attend a three-hour New Volunteer Orientation. After that session, you will sign-up for a one-on-one interview with Volunteer Services staff. Once onboard, you will be asked to get a free health screening for tuberculosis by St. Mary's. You will also receive a photo ID badge and be required to purchase a volunteer uniform available through the Volunteer Office.
