Providing patient directory information; Escorting patients to their destinations within the hospital (Student Escort positions available for after-school hours and weekends, minimum age is 16 years); Providing friendly visits to patients; Answering caller questions; Helping customers in our Friendly Shop and Cancer Center Boutique; Offering computer data entry and clerical assistance; Providing music in our lobby; Priority areas in need of assistance are the amateur radio program, critical care reception, disaster assistance, emergency department, patient/visitor escorts, patient information, patient access services, patient relations, and retail shops.
Our volunteer interview process helps identify whether volunteering at South Shore Hospital is right for you. The process starts by calling Volunteer Services at 781-624-8241. You will have the opportunity to discuss your interests and skills and learn more about our available volunteer assignments. We will then mail you a volunteer application packet. It provides an overview of volunteer obligations and benefits. Included are forms to be completed and returned to the volunteer office. Upon receipt of your completed application forms we will contact you to arrange an interview. Our interview process helps identify whether volunteering at South Shore Hospital is a good fit. During this appointment, you will complete a volunteer application. You will have an opportunity to discuss your interests and skills and learn more about our available volunteer assignments. You will also receive an overview of volunteer obligations and benefits. If appropriate, you will visit the area and people with whom you may volunteer and receive a written description(s) of the volunteer assignment(s) of greatest interest to you. If a determination is made that there is a match between your interests and South Shore Hospital's volunteer needs, we will check your personal references. We are also mandated by regulatory agencies to conduct a criminal offender record/background check inquiry.
