Over 50 years ago, a group of concerned DeKalb County citizens and volunteers gathered and decided it was time to begin the difficult task of raising money to build a local hospital. Finally, in 1964, what was then the DeKalb Memorial Hospital opened its doors. Touted as "the Miracle of Indiana”, it was a hospital that was built and equipped through the sole contributions of the citizens of DeKalb County. Today, this community hospital has grown into the DeKalb Health system. Then and now, DeKalb Health prides itself on promoting, preserving, and restoring health. DeKalb Health’s volunteers contribute more than time and resources. They bring a level of enthusiasm and a spirit of warmth to their work that simply can't be expressed in dollars and cents. The community benefits from the efforts of the volunteers in the hospital, at the Auxiliary's thrift shop, through the efforts of Hospice Volunteers. For more information about volunteer opportunities at this hospital, visit the Dekalb Memorial Hospital Inc volunteer website.
The Auxiliary is currently seeking volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering for DeKalb Health and becoming an important part of our patient experience, you may stop by one of our volunteer desks and pick up an application. As a volunteer, you will receive a free meal each day you volunteer and discounts at our PharmaCare Pharmacies and Gift Shop.
