UM BWMC's Volunteer Program is service-based and dedicates hours to most departments within the medical center. Opportunities are available for anyone 18 years of age and older. Duties range from filing, answering telephones, helping people find their way, greeting patients, visiting with patients, cleaning equipment, stocking supplies, registering people at community events, putting together informational packets for patients and families, filling snack and drink areas, providing items to patients (e.g. water, pillow, blanket), taking photos in workshops, assisting with slide shows, arranging tables and chairs for classes, retrieving wheelchairs, distributing wristbands, and more. Candidates who are 18 years or older and submit an application may be asked to come in for an interview. Background Check; Reference Letters (two references required); Volunteer Expectations and Commitment Agreement; Confidentiality and Volunteer Agreement; Dress Code Policy. After completing an interview, there will be several tasks for you to complete before beginning to volunteer. Since we are an active and comprehensive medical center, we care for individuals with a wide variety of conditions. Therefore all our employees and volunteers must take extra precaution to protect our patients. This includes a background check, vaccinations, references, classes and training.
